How to prepare for solar installation before your survey

The first step is to be clear about what you want the system to achieve. You may be looking to reduce daytime electricity costs, protect yourself from rising energy prices, charge an electric vehicle, run a heat pump more efficiently or store surplus power in a battery. These priorities affect the recommended panel size, battery capacity and equipment layout.

Gather a full year of electricity bills if possible. This gives a clearer picture than one recent bill because energy use often changes with the seasons.
